Booking a photo session with little ones can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. We all know that kids have their own schedules, and the key to a smooth, happy session is picking the right time of day! Here are our top tips for booking your family session when small kids are involved.

1. Consider Their Nap Schedule
Well-rested kids are happy kids! If your little one still naps, schedule your session after nap time to ensure they’re refreshed and in a good mood. Late morning or early evening usually works best.
2. Avoid Meal Times (and Bring Snacks!)
Hungry kids = cranky kids. Make sure your session isn’t too close to meal times, and always pack easy, mess-free snacks in case they need a little pick-me-up.
3. Aim for Golden Hour (But Know Your Child)
Golden hour—right before sunset—gives dreamy, soft lighting, but it might be too late for early sleepers. If your child tends to get fussy in the evening, consider a morning session when they are at their happiest.
4. Keep It Short & Sweet
Little ones don’t have long attention spans, so mini sessions or shorter full sessions work best. We move quickly, keeping things fun and engaging to capture those sweet smiles before the wiggles set in!
5. Weekdays Can Be a Great Option
Weekends fill up fast, and sometimes a weekday session can be a more relaxed experience with fewer distractions. If your schedule allows, consider booking during the week.
6. Be Flexible & Go With the Flow
Kids will be kids! Sometimes they’re in the mood, sometimes they’re not—and that’s okay! We keep things lighthearted and fun to ensure we capture genuine moments, even if that means letting them run around and be themselves.
