What to Wear for Senior Photos: Girls Edition

Senior photos are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate who you are and the exciting future ahead! At Kate Buckles Photography, we want you to feel confident, comfortable, and beautiful during your session. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect outfits that reflect your unique style while making sure you shine in every shot.

1. Start with Something Timeless

Opt for outfits that feel classic and timeless, so you’ll love your photos for years to come. A simple, well-fitted dress, a flowy blouse paired with jeans, or a tailored jumpsuit are great starting points. Neutral tones like white, beige, and soft pastels are flattering and photograph beautifully in all settings. You can also go for classic patterns like stripes, polka dots, or floral prints—just be mindful that they don’t overpower your look.

2. Show Your Personality

Your senior photos should represent who you are! Don’t be afraid to add outfits that reflect your personality. Whether that’s a favorite pair of jeans and a cute graphic tee, a fun boho dress, or something edgy and bold, the key is to feel like yourself. If you’re into sports, hobbies, or any activities, bring along a uniform, equipment, or accessories to capture what you love.

3. Add Layers for Variety

Adding layers to your outfit—like a cardigan, jacket, or scarf—can make your look more interesting and give you more options during the session. Layers also help you transition from casual to dressy without a full outfit change, giving your photos a fresh feel without much effort.

4. Stick to Flattering Silhouettes

Choose outfits that highlight your best features and make you feel confident. Dresses with defined waistlines, tops that fit just right, or flowy skirts can create flattering lines in photos. Avoid anything too baggy or ill-fitting, as it can overwhelm your figure in pictures. You want to feel comfortable but also look polished and put together.

5. Keep Patterns Simple

While bold prints can be fun, they can also be distracting in photos. Opt for subtle patterns that won’t take attention away from your face. If you love patterns, florals, or soft checks, go for it—just make sure they complement your style and don’t dominate the shot.

6. Shoes and Accessories Matter

Your shoes should complete your look. Neutral or classic styles like sandals, boots, or heels that match your outfit work best. Avoid anything too trendy or flashy that might distract from your look. Simple accessories like a delicate necklace, earrings, or a bracelet can add just the right touch without being overwhelming. And don’t forget—if we’re hiking to a location, bring comfortable shoes for the walk and switch them out when we start shooting.

7. Dress for the Location

Where your session takes place can inspire your outfit choices. For an outdoor location, flowy dresses or more casual, laid-back looks can blend beautifully with nature. If your session has a more urban setting, edgier or dressier outfits, like a chic blazer or trendy jacket, will stand out against the backdrop.

8. Be Comfortable and Confident

The most important thing is to wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. If you’re fidgeting with your outfit or feeling awkward in it, it’ll show in the photos. Choose outfits that you love, that let you move freely, and that make you feel amazing in your own skin.

At Kate Buckles Photography, we want to capture the delicate moments, joy, and laughter that define your senior year. These outfit tips will help you feel ready to shine, so your session reflects the best version of you!
